The 86th Academy Awards embraced social media last night as host Ellen DeGeneres continuously tweeted from the show and broke Twitter with a selfie with Hollywood biggest stars. In between all her jaunts down the aisles with the sponsored Samsung Galaxy smartphone, they also gave out some golden statuettes. This year, HSX traders were a perfect 8 for 8 in prediction the Oscar winners in the top categories, so give yourself a pat on the back.
Fox Searchlight's 12 Years A Slave [A4P12Y] beat out Gravity and American Hustle for Best Picture. Alfonso Cuaron [A4DACU] won Best Director for Gravity, which totaled a night-leading 7 Oscars, the rest all in the technical categories. American Hustle was completely shut out despite 10 nominations.
Matthew McConaughey [A4AMMC] capped off an amazing year with the Oscar for Best Actor in Dallas Buyers Club while his co-star Jared Leto [A4RJLE] was named Best Supporting Actor.
A previously winner for her supporting role in Aviator, Cate Blanchett [A4CCBL] took home the Oscar for Best Actress in Blue Jasmine, while newcomer Lupita Nyong'o [A4SLNY] was bestowed Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years A Slave.
12 Years A Slave [A4E12Y] also won Best Adapted Screenplay for John Ridley's work based on Solomon Northup's autobiography. Spike Jonze was honored for his Best Original Screenplay on Her [A4OHER].
