Perhaps the queen of the romantic comedy, Meg Ryan received her first big break as Betsy Stewart Montgomery Andropolous on the daytime soap As the World Turns. Ryan worked on the show from 1982 until 1984, before making her next major career move in 1986 with a role in Top Gun. The release of When Harry Met Sally in 1989 established Ryan as one of Hollywood's biggest box-office draws, and lead to a string of roles in other romantic comedies such as Prelude to a Kiss and Sleepless in Seattle. Ryan broke out of that genre with films such as Restoration and Courage Under Fire, but returned to familiar territory with 1997's Addicted to Love and 1998's You've Got Mail.
