Earning an estimated $16.3 million was enough for the boxing robots actioner Reel Steel [RSTEL] to repeat as the reigning champion. The family film declined 40% from its opening weekend bringing its cumulative total to $51.7 million.
The remake of Footloose [FTLOS] tallied $16.1 million to debut in second place. The audience turnout was dominated by the female gender at 75%.
The Thing [THING] finished third with a soft $8.8 million. The horror prequel skewed male at 57%.
At the fourth spot, The Ides of March [IDESM] trailed off just 28% to $7.5 million in its second weekend.
The weekend's third new release The Big Year [BIGYR] bombed completely with just $3.3 million.
