The third film in the found footage horror franchise and produced for a mere $5 million, Paranormal Activity 3 [PNAC3] scared up a whopping estimated weekend gross of $54.0 million. The opening sets a new record for horror films, crushing Paranormal Activity 2's own $40.7 million, as well as for October, beating Jackass 3D's $50.4 million. After reigning for two weeks, Reel Steel [RSTEL] fell to second place at $11.3 million. The robot boxer's purse currently reads $67.2 million.
Footloose [FTLOS] scored $10.9 million to finish third. The remake slipped just 30% from its opening weekend.
The Three Musketeers [3MSKT] debuted in fourth place with just $8.8 million. Summit was called out by Milla Jovovich [MJOVO] for under-marketing the umpteenth adaptation.
