How would Jim Carrey's [JCARR] comedic antics translate if he were playing gay? Turns out pretty much the same as a straight character as seen in the French trailer for I Love You, Phillip Morris [ILUPM]. Carrey plays Steven Russell, a married man who turns con man to fuel a new extravagant lifestyle as a gay man. Caught and sent to prison, he falls for cellmate Phillip Morris, played by Ewan McGregor [EMCGR]. When Morris gets released, the lovestruck Russell breaks out of prison in pursuit. It's Catch Me If You Can meets Brokeback Mountain.
All the major studio labels passed on the gay comedy despite its stellar cast and favorbale reviews at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. While France gets the film this September, newly formed Consolidated Pictures Group won't release the film in the U.S. until February 2010.
