The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday box office was led by Contraband [CNTRB] which looted an estimated $28.8 million over the 4-day weeeknd. The Mark Wahlberg [MWAHL] actioner attracted an audience that was 55% over the age of 30.
The Beauty and the Beast 3D [BTB3D] re-release finished a distant second at $23.5 million over the long weekend.
In third place, Mission: impossible - Ghost Protocol [MISS4] banked another $14.2 million to advance its total to $189.4 million.
Joyful Noise [JOYNS] opened at the fourth spot with $13.9 million over holiday weekend. The musical drama brought out older women with 73% of the audience female, and 65% over the age of 35.
Last weekend's top film The Devil Inside [DVNSD] dropped to sixth overall at $9.2 million.
