Disney’s animated guinea pigs beat out the teen wizard to top the weekend box office. G-Force [GFORC] grossed an estimated $32.15 million as cute talking animals proved irresistible to family audiences.
After captivating the box office last weekend, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince [HPOT6] wore off 61% in its second outing to $30 million. The sixth film in the series has booked $221.8 million in 12 days.
The romantic comedy The Ugly Truth [UGLYT] scored $27.0 million to debut in third place. Sony successfully positioned the R-rated film as a battle of the sexes between the attractive leads Katherine Heigl [KHEIG] and Gerard Butler [GBUTL].
Horror fans took in Orphan [ORPHA] to a fourth placing $12.77 million. The R-rated film with no major stars performed better than expected for Warner Bros..
