Universal’s R-rated comedy Funny People [FUNYP] warmed up just $23.44 million but enough to debut in first place. Adam Sandler [ASAND] fans apparently did not care to see the comedian play a serious character not unlike the real-life Sandler. Reviews of the Judd Apatow [JAPAT] directed film have been mixed, which may not sway adult audiences still on the fence to check out the film in upcoming weeks.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince [HPOT6] edged out G-Force [GFORC] for second place. The animated guinea pigs tailed off 46% in its second weekend.
Aliens in the Attic [ANATC] landed an estimated $7.8 million to finish in fifth place. Even with a late change in title from the previous They Came From Upstairs, the PG-rated comedy did not connect with the family audience.
The horror film The Collector [COLCT] grossed $3.6 million to chart out of the top ten at number eleven.
