Extending Pixar's streak of number one opening to thirteen in a row, Brave [BRAVE] top the weekend box office with an estimated $66.7 million. The debut was the fifth best in Pixar's history and slightly better than Cars 2 last year. The female heroine attracted an audience that was 57% female. Positive word of mouth should continue to bring out families.
Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted [MADG3] was knocked down to second place with $20.2 million. DreamWorks' aniamted sequel has cleared $157.6 million.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter [ALVH] slayed $16.5 million to debut in third place. The historical fantasy mashup did not connect with moviegoers, but those that came out were 56% male and 53% over the age of 25.
The weekend's third wide release Seeking a Friend for the End of the World [SAFEW] cratered tenth overall with just $3.8 million.
