A trio of new films crashed and burned at the weekend box office as The Expendables 2 [XPND2] remained in first place with an estimated $13.5 million. The action sequel declined 53% in its second weekend to bring its running total to $52.3 million.
The Bourne Legacy [BORN4] also held the second spot at $9.3 million. The spy sequel has earned $85.5 million after 3 weekends.
ParaNorman [PNORM] decayed 39% in its second weekend to $8.5 million, while fellow sophomore release The Odd Life of Timothy Green [OLOTG] fell just 34% to $7.1 million.
The Joseph Gordon-Levitt starrer Premium Rush [PRUSH] opened seventh overall with $6.3 million. The thriller attracted an audience that was 67% over the age of 25.
The Dax Shepard vehicle Hit & Run [HITRN] debuted with $4.7 million for tenth over the weekend and $5.9 million in its first 5 days.
The Apparition [APRTN] bombed with a less than $3.0 million opening.
