In the slowest weekend at the box office since September of 2001, The Possession [TPOSN] remained in first place with an estimated $9.5 million. The horror film declined 46% in its second weekend to bring its total to $33.3 million.
Holding on to the second spot, Lawless [LWLES] took in $6.0 million, down 40% from its debut. The crime drama has banked $23.5 million.
The Words [WORDS] earned just $5.0 million to open in third place. The Bradley Cooper drama attracted mainly older women as its audience was 58% female and 78% over the age of 25.
The weekend's other wide release, The Cold Light of Day [TCOLD] fared even worse, grossing just $1.8 million to finish outside the top 12.
