In a weekend at the box office crowded with new wide releases, both End of Watch [ENDWT] and House at the End of the Street [ENDST] lay claim to first at an estimated $13.0 million. End of Watch brought out the Hispanic crowd who made up 32% of the moviegoers. 54% of the audience were male and 64% ove the age of 25. The cop actioner earned a CinemaScore of A-, the best of any new releases. House at the End of the Street skewed young women as expected with its audience 61% female and 70% under the age of 25.
Trouble with the Cruve [TCURV] followed closely behind with $12.7 million for third place. Clint Eastwood's baseball drama underperformed expectations, but its target audience of older adults don't necessarily rush out on opening weekend.
Finding Nemo 3D [NEM3D] trailed off 43% to $9.4 million while last weekend's champ Resident Evil: Retribution [RESE5] fell 68% to $6.7 million.
Dredd [DREDD] bombed with a dreadful $6.3 million debut. Despite good reviews, sci-fi fans weren't interested in the remake.
Expanding wide in its second weekend, The Master [MASTR] converted $5.0 million for the seventh spot.
