Five new releases were no competition for Liam Neeson as Taken 2 [TAKE2] stay atop the weekend box office with an estimated $22.5 million. The action sequel has banked $86.8 million in 10 days.
Ben Affleck's Argo [ARGO] debuted in second place with $20.1 million. The hostage thriller attracted an audience that was 93% was over the age of 25 and 54% female. With excellent word of mouth, the Awards hopefulshould have long legs.
Sinister [SINIS] grossed $18.3 million to open at the third spot. Moviegoers gave the $3 million horror film a C+ Cinemascore.
Hotel Transylvania [HTRNS] finished fourth with $17.3 million to bring its total to $102.2 million.
The Kevin James comedy Here Come the Boom opened fifth at $12.0 million. Families made up 45% of the audience.
Seven Psychopaths [7PSYC] charted at nine with $4.3 million. The Perks of Being a Wallflower [POBWF] earned $2.2 million in its wide expansion. Atlas Shrugged: Part II [ATLA2] brought up the rear with just $1.7 million.
