Showing signs of franchise fatigue, the found footage horror sequel Paranormal Activity 4 [PNAC4] opened with an estimated $30.2 million, down nearly half of Paranormal 3's $52.6 million last year and also less than Paranormal 2's $40.7 million in 2010. 60% of the audience was under age of 25.
The thriller Argo [ARGO] remained in second at $30.2 million, off just 15% from its debut. The awards contender has grossed $43.2 million.
Hotel Transylvania [HTRNS] finished third with $13.5 million to bring its total to $119.0 million after four weekends.
After two weekes at the top, Taken 2 [TAKE2] fell to fourth with $13.4 million. The thriller has earned $106.0 million.
Alex Cross [CROSS] debuted in fifth place with $11.8 million. The Tyler Perry starrer appealed primarily to African-Americans who made up 74% of the audience.
