The Twihards remained loyal to the end as the fifth and final film in the franchise The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 [TWLI5] topped the weekend box office with an estimated $141.3 million. The opening was ahead of last year's Breaking Dawn Part 1's $138.1 million, but short of New Moon's series best $142.8 million. The audience was 79% female and 50% over the age of 25 years. As with all previous installment, the finale ill be heavily front-loaded to opening weekend.
Last's weekend champ Skyfall [JB23] finished second with $41.5 million, dropping 53% from its debut. The Bond adventure has already amassed $161.3 million.
Expanding wide after a week of limited release, Lincoln [ABE] talied $21.0 million for third place. The historical drama attracted an older crowd with 67% over the age of 35. The well-reviewd Lincoln should have long legs through award season.
Wreck-It Ralph [RALPH] smashed another $18.3 million to rank fourth. The animated film has scored $121.5 million after 3 weekends.
