Three new wide releases opened during this Thanksgiving holiday weekend, but moviegoers preferred the familiarity of two franchise holdovers. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 [TWLI5] sucked in an estimates $60.0 million over the 5-day period to lead the weekend box office. The final Twilight film tumbled 69% from its debut when comparing the 3-day portion of its weekend and brought its total to $227.0 million.
Skyfall [JB23] again finished second at $51.0 million. The Bond sequel barely dropped in advancing its total to $221.7 million.
Lincoln [ABE] also remained third with $34.1 million over Thanskgiving. The biopic actually increased 19% over its previous weekend.
Rise of the Guardians [GURDN] debuted with $31.6 million over the long weekend, the lowest opening for DreamWorks Animation since 2006's Flushed Away. Those who saw the holiday-themed film gave it a CinemaScore of A, giving hope for long legs at the box office through the holidays.
Life of Pi [LIFPI] opened at the fifth spot with $30.2 million since Wednesday. The 3D adaptation of the bests-seling novel attracted an audience that was 60% over the age of 25.
