The first DreamWorks Animation movie to be distributed by Fox, the prehistoric family tale The Croods [CROOD] banked $44.7 million to lead the weekend box office. Families were 70% of the audience, which gave an CinemaScore of A indicating strong word of mouth.
Gerard Butler has a hit again as Olympus Has Fallen [OLYHF] debuted in second place with a strong $30.5 million. The first two action films set in the White House appealed to males over the age of 25 that made up 73% of the audience.
Oz: The Great and Powerful [OZTGP] finished third with $22.0 million to bring its cumulative total to $177.6 million. The Call [TCALL] dropped 49% in its second weekend to $8.7 million.
Admission [ADMSN] took in just $6.4 million to open in the fifth slot, followed by Spring Breakers [SPBRK] with $5.0 million in its wide expansion.
