Retaining the top spot at the weekend box office, Depicable Me 2 [DESM2] earned an estimated $44.8 million. The animated sequel was down 46% in advancing its total to $229.2 million.
Grown Ups 2 [GRWN2] debuted in second place at $42.5 million, a little bit more than the original's $40.5 million in 2010. Grown Ups 2 drew an audience that was 53% female and 54% under 25.
Pacific Rim [PACRM] knocked down $38.3 million to open in thrid place. The fanboy crowd turned out early during the weekend and a summer best 50% of the revenue were on 3D screens.
At the fourth spot, The Heat [THEAT] brought in $14 million to bring its three weekend total to $112.4 million.
The Lone Ranger [LONER] tumbled 62% in its second weekend to $11.1 million. The western flop stands at $71.1 million.
