The summer went out with a whimper as the three new wide releases failed to beat out The Final Destination [FDES4] for first place. The horror sequel admitted $15.4 million in its second session over the 4-day holiday weekend to narrowly held off Inglourious Basterds [BSTRD], which earned $15 million in its third weekend of release.
All About Steve [ABSTV] fared best amongst the weekend’s new arrivals. Despite some of the worst reviews of the year, the anti-romantic comedy staked $14 million over the Labor Day weekend on the starpower of Sandra Bullock [SBULL] and Bradley Cooper [BCOOP].
Expected by many to win the weekend, Gamer [CGAME] scored just $11.2 million to finish fourth overall. Gerard Butler [GBUTL] starred in the R-rated actioner from Lionsgate.
The Mike Judge [MJUDG] directed comedy Extract [EXTRC] squeezed out $5.5 million to debut at the ninth spot.
