Exhibiting a strong hold on the weekend box office, Gravity [GRVTY] pulls in an estimated $44.3 million to remain in first place. The sci-fi film slipped just 21% in its second orbit to bring its total to a massive $123.4 million.
Captain Phillips [CDUTY] earned $26.0 million to open at the second spot. Not to be overshadowed by Gravity, the tense thriller attracted an older crowd that was 52% male.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs [CWCM2] took third with $14.2 million, bringing its total to $78.0 million.
Debuting at the fourth spot, Machete Kills [MCHT2] flopped with just $3.8 million.
Rounding out the top five, Runner Runner [RUNER] dropped 52% in its second weekend to $3.7 million.
