Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself [ICDBA] did good with a $24 million weekend to easily out-distance the competition. The opening is the third best for Tyler Perry [TPERR] behind Madea Goes to Jail’s $41 million and Madea’s Family Reunion’s $30 million. As usual, older African-American women made up the majority of the audience for the seventh Perry film released by Lionsgate.
The animated sci-fi film 9 [9NINE] earned nearly $10.9 million to debut in second place. That brings the five-day total to $15.3 million since Focus Features opened the film on Wednesday.
Inglourious Basterds [BSTRD] finished third in its fourth outing. The action drama crossed the century mark, grossing $6.5 million to bring its cumulative total to $104.3 million.
All About Steve [ABSTV] declined 48% in its second weekend to $5.8 million. The romantic comedy has booked $21.8 million thus far.
After two weeks at the top, The Final Destination [FDES4] dropped down to the fifth spot with $5.5 million. That was still enough to beat out two new R-rated arrivals.
The horror remake Sorority Row [HSROW] scored a lackluster $5.3 million in its debut, while the Antarctic-set thriller Whiteout [WTOUT] received a chilly $5.1 million.
