Opening with an estimated $86.1 million at the weekend box office, Thor: The Dark World [THOR2] missed Skyfall's record by just a couple of millions. The Marvel superhero sequel attracted an audience that was 61% over the age of 25 and 62% male. The box office rose slightly from Friday to Saturday and with good word of mouth, Thor: The Dark World may actually have better legs than the typical blockbuster sequel.
Jackass Present: Bad Grandpa [JCKA4] maintains its impressive hold with $11.3 million for second place. The comedy has banked $78.7 million after 3 weekends.
Among the sophomore holdovers, Free Birds [TURKY] declined just 29% to $11.2 million while Last Vegas [LASTV] slipped only 32% to $11.1 million.
Last week's top film, Ender's Game tumbled to fifth place with $10.3 million, down 62% from its debut. The sci-fi film has tallied $44.0 million.
In their first weekend of wide release, 12 Years A Slave [12SLV] earned $6.6 million to advance its total to $17.3 million while About Time [ABTIM] grossed $5.2 million to bring its total to $6.7 million.
