The two new wide releases underperformed at the weekend box office allowing for Mr. Peabody & Sherman [MRPBS] to rise to the top spot with an estimated $21.2 million. The animated film declined just 34% in its second weekend to bring its total to $63.2 million.
300: Rise of An Empire [XERXE] was dethroned to second place at $19.1 million. The sequel dropped 58% from its debut and sits at $78.3 million after 10 days.
Crossing the finish line at the third spot, Need for Speed [NFSPD] earned a disappointing $17.8 million. The street racing did not attract enough young males.
In fourth place, Non-Stop [NONST] booked $10.6 million to advance its total to $68.8 million.
Tyler Perry's Single Moms Club [SMOMC] charted fifth overall with $8.3 million, the worst debut for the filmmaker. The film skewed 80% female and 80% over the age of 25.
Opening in 291 theaters, Veronica Mars [VMARS] grossed $2.0 million.
