Connecting with both devout Christians and non-religious moviegoers alike, Noah [NOAH] gathered an estimated $44.0 million to lead the weekend box office. The biblical epic attracted an audience that was evenly split between males and females while 54% were over the age of 25.
Last weekend's top film Divergent [DVRGN] took second with $26.5 million, down 51% from its debut. The sci-fi film stands at $95.3 million.
Muppets: Most Wanted [MUPE2] trailed off 33% in its second weekend to $11.4 million, bringing its total to $33.2 million. Mr. Peabody & Sherman [MRPBS] finished fourth with $9.5 million to advance its totatl $94.9 million after 4 weekends.
God's Not Dead [GODND] slipped just 2% from its opening weekend to round out the top five at $9.1 million. The faith-based drama has already earned $22.0 million.
Two limited releases expanded wide with different results. The Grand Budapest Hotel [GBHTL] booked $8.8 million for the sixth spot, while Bad Words [BDWRD] managed a platry $2.6 million.
The actioner Sabotage [SBOTG] bombed with $5.3 million in seventh placce, while the biopic Cesar Chavez [CHAVZ] opened with $3.0 million.
