Another sequel arrives in theaters this weekend and it should have no problems topping the two from last week. Think Like A Man Too [TLAM2] follows up on the 2012 romantic comedy Think Like A Man, which debuted at $33.6 million. Kevin Hart [KHART] broke out of the ensemble cast as a major star and now leads them to Las Vegas for some PG-13 rated shenanigans. The original film was well-received by moviegoers, and fans should turn out again for the sequel. Advance sales are outpacing Ride Along, which took in $41.5 million on the first 3-days of MLK Jr holiday weekend this January. Staying in 2225 theaters, Think Like A Man Too could act like a $40 million winner.
Although How to Train Your Dragon 2 [HTYD2] managed to topped the first film, DreamWorks Animation failed to entice more fans to return for the sequel. With no other animated films as competition, How to Train Your Dragon 2 should be able to hold about 60% in its second weekend for $30 million.
Sony had no trouble getting fans of 21 Jump Street to revisit 22 Jump Street [21JS2]. The buddy cop comedy looks to drop more 50% in its sophomore outing to around $28 million.
Also opening in wide release is the feature adaptation of the stage musical Jersey Boys [JBOYS]. Directed by Clint Eastwood [CEAST], the R-rated film features a cast of unknowns. The Warner Bros. release will only interest moviegoers well past 60 who are familiar with Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Unfortunately, the target demographic is more likely to wait and see. Playing in 2905 theaters, Jersey Boys may harmonize $13 million.
After a week in limited release, The Rover [ROVER] expands into 579 theaters. The post-apocalyptic thriller starring Robert Pattinson [RPATT] and Guy Pearce [GPEAR] could roll over $2 million.
