Paramount has launched a third toy-based franchise as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles [TMNT1] returned to the big screen with an estimated $65.0 million to lead the weekend box office. The film attracted an audience that was 61% male and 55% aged 25 and over. With its family appeal, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles could have decent legs for the rest of summer.
Last week's champ Guardians of the Galaxy [GOTGX] declined 56% to $41.5 million. The Marvel space adventure has banked $175.9 million.
Into the Storm [CATE6] touched down in third place with $18.0 million. The disaster film brought out a crowd that was 58% female and 71% over the age of 25.
The Hundred-Foot Journey [THFTJ] bowed at the fourth spot with $11.1 million. The foodie comedy skewed 59% women and 87% over the age of 25.
Step Up: All In [STUP5] tapped just $6.5 million to debut sixth overall.
