The latest dystopian sci-fi adaptation connected with young adults as The Maze Runner [MAZER] lead the weekend box office with an estimated $32.5 million. The audience consisted of 52% females and 65% was under the age of 25.
A Walk Among the Tombstones [WKTMB] earned $13.1 million to open in second place. The Liam Neeson pic brought out the older crowd with 77% over the age of 25, which was surprisingly split between the sexes rather than skew male as previously expected.
This Is Where I Leave You [TWILU] finished third at $11.9 million. The dramedy drew predominantly older women at 63% female and 86% over the age of 25.
Last week's top film No Good Deed [NOGDD] tumbled 58% to $10.2 million, while Dolphin Tale 2 [DLPH2] slid 45% to $9.0 million.
