Hard to believe it's been nearly eight years since Mel Gibson [MGIBS] last starred in a major motion picture, 2002's Signs. Instead of acting, Gibson had been courting controversies, whether it's directing films like The Passion of the Christ or getting arrested for DUI and then going on an anti-Semitic tirade. As much as we love Gibson's persona, we prefer to see crazy Mel act out on screen, rather than in real life. The new action film Edge of Darkness [EDRKN] gives Gibson the opportunity to reintroduce himself to moviegoers with a role shaped from the mold of Lethal Weapon's Riggs. Gibson plays a tough cop out to untangle a conspiracy to avenge the death of his daughter. Judging from the trailer, Gibson's comeback vehicle is on the right track to make audiences forgive and forget the last few years.
Warner Bros. will open Edge of Darkness in wide release on January 29, 2010.
