While the two new wide releases failed to feast over Thanksgiving weekend, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 [HGAM3] gained an estimated $82.7 million over the 5-day holiday period to remained at number one. The sequel declined 53% in its second weekend when comparing the 3-day portion. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 has banked $225.7 million thus far.
Penguins of Madagascar [PMADG] debuted in second place at $36.0 million. The DramWorks Animation spin-off drew a crowd that was 52% female and 58% under the age of 25.
Big Hero 6 [BHERO] grossed $26.0 million to bring itst total to $167.2 million, while Interstellar [NTSTL] earned $22.0 million to advance its totatl to $147.1 million.
Horrible Bosses 2 [HBOS2] opened with just $23.0 million, doing less in its first 5 days than the original in 3 days. The comedy sequel attracted an audience that was 51% male and 59% over the age of 25.
Expanding wide to 802 theaters, The Theory of Everything [TOEVT] summed $6.25 million over the long Thanskgiving weekend.
