Staying on top the box office for a third consecutive weekend, American Sniper [AMSNP] grossed an estimated $31.8 million to set a new high mark for Super Bowl weekend. The previous record of $31.1 million was held by 2008's Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana Concert Film. The war drama now sits at $248.9 million.
Paddington [PADTN] finished second with $8.5 million bringing its total across $50.5 million.
Project Almanac [ALMNC] debuted under expectations with just $8.5 million in third place. The sci-fi found footage film drew an audience that was 55% males and 63% under the age of 25.
Black or White [BLKWH] opened at the fourth spot with $6.5 million. The Kevin Costner racial drama attracted moviegoers that were 64% female and 78% over the age of 25.
The Boy Next Door [BOYND] dropped 59% in its second weekend to $6.1 million and fifth overall. The thriller has earned $24.7 million.
The long-delayed thriller The Loft [TLOFT] bombed at tenth with just $2.9 million.
Expanding into wide release, A Most Violent Year [AMVYR] took in $1.7 million.
