Moviegoers were brought back to theaters by Disney's live-action remake of theri animated classic Cinderella [CINDE], earning an estimated $70.1 million to easily outdistance the competition. The debut tops Malefiecent's $69.3 million, which had the benefit of Angelina Jolie, summer and 3D surcharges. Families made up 66% of the audience, which skewed 77% female and 56% under 25 years old.
Run All Night [ALNIT] debuted in second place with $11.0 million. The male-targeted actioner drew slight more women as 52% of the audience was female while 85% were over age of 25.
In its fifth week of release, Kingsman: The Secret Service [TSSRV.BW] nabbed $6.2 million to actually moved up a spot to third. The spy thriller has banked $106.4 million.
Focus [FOCUZ] finished fourth with $5.8 million to bring its total $44.0 million.
Last weekend's top film, Chappie [CHAPI] tumbled 57% to $5.8 million and fifth overall. The sci-fi film has grossed $23.3 million.
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel [BEMH2] took sixth with $5.7 million, down 33% from its debut.
