Although the film did not live up to its pre-release hype, Michael Jackson's This Is It [JACKO] still topped Halloween weekend with $21.3 million. The concert documentary has grossed $32.5 million since opening on Wednesday. The behind the scenes performances thrilled Jackson fans, but it remains to be seen if This Is It will cross over to a bigger audience. Concert films typically are front-loaded by die-hard fans. Initially marketed as a two weeks only run, This Is It has been extended through Thnkasgiving.
In sceond place, Paranormal Activity [PNACT] declined just 22% to $16.5 million as it expanded to 2404 theaters. The horror phenomenon has already earned $84.8 million.
Holdovers Law Abiding Citizen [LACTZ] and Couple Retreat [CPLRT] finished third and fourth at $7.3 million and $6.1 million, respectively.
Rounding out the top five, Saw VI [SAW6] dropped 61% from its opening weekend to $5.6 million.
