While the real Tomorrowland in Disneyland celebrates its 60th birthday, the namesake movie Tomorrowland [1952] tallied an estimated $41.7 million to lead the long Memorial Day weekend. The sci-fi fantasy attracted a crowd that was 51% male and 6`1% over the age of 25 while families made up 30% of the audience.
Last week's top film Pitch Perfect 2 [PTCP2] finished second with $38.5 million to bring its total to $126.0 million. The 3-day portion of the weekend dropped 56%.
Mad Max: Fury Road [MMAX4] took third at $32.1 million. The actioner declined 47% from its debut when comparing the 3-day portion of the weekend.
Poltergiest [POLTR] debuted in fifth place with $26.5 million. The horror remake skewed 55% female and 60% over the age of 25.
Expanding wide to 865 theaters, Far From the Madding Crowd [FFTMC] charted at seventh with $2.95 million.
