Female moviegoers powered the weekend box office again as the action comedy Spy [SCOPR] debuted in first place with an estimated $30.0 million. The Melissa McCarthy [MMCCA] starring vehicle attracted an audience that was 60% female and 65% over the age of 25.
Last weekend's top film, San Andreas [SANDR] measured $26.4 million in second place, off 52% from its opening. The disaster film has hit $99.1 million.
Insidious: Chapter 3 [NSID3] opened at the third spot with $23.0 million. The horror preque brought out a crowd that was 54% female and 69% under the age of 25.
Entourage [ENTOR] came in fourth with $10.4 milion, to bring its 5-day total to $17.8 million. The audience skewed male at 64%.
Rounding out the top five, Mad Max: Fury Road [MMAX4] pumped nearly $8.0 million to gas its total to $130.8 million.
Aloha [ALOHA] tumbled 66% in its second weekend to $3.3 million and ninth overall.
