Before Hollywood started making movies based on toys, studios were mining cartoons and comic strips to turn into CG animated characters to star opposite live action actors. 2002's Scooby Doo began the trend that have beget Looeny Tunes: Back in Action, Garfield and Alvin and the Chipmunks. Earlier this week, Owen Wilson signed on to voice Marmaduke [MARMA], a Great Dane with disruptive antics that drives his family bonkers. Now, Dan Aykroyd [DAYKR] is in talks to voice Yogi Bear [YOGIB], while Justin Timberlake [JTIMB] is negotiating to be the voice of Boo Boo. Can this odd, yet tantalizing pairing elevate the material beyond Saturday morning cartoon? Personally, I never got into cartoons that needed a laugh track to tell us when it was suppose to be funny. Was there a studio audience watching the animators draw? What a strange concept.
Marmaduke arrives on June 4, 2010, while Yogi Bear is scheduled for release on December 17, 2010.
