With three newcomers all underperforming at the weekend box office, Ant-Man [ANTMN] retained first place with an estimated $14.8 million. The Marvel superhero dropped 57% in its second weekend to bring its total to $106.1 million.
Pixels [PIXEL] debuted in second with$24.0 million. The poorly revied sci-fi film attracted an audience that was 55% males and 62% under 25 years old.
Minions [MNION] added another $22.1 million tat third for a cumulative total of $261.6 million. Trainwreck [TRWRC] finished fourth with $17.3 million, down 43% from its debut.
Southpaw [SUPAW] took fifth with $16.5 million. The boxing drama surprisingly connected with women.
Paper Towns [PRTWN] earned just $12.5 million for sixth place. The teen drama turned out to be extremely frontloaded.
Expanding to wide release, Mr. Holmes [ASLTM] grossed $2.8 million.
