While Fox's superhero franchise reboot crashed and burned, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation [MISS5] held 47% of its opening weekend for an estimated $29.4 million to repeat atop the weekend box office. The fifth installment in Paramount's spy adventure series has earned $108.7 million in 10 days.
Fantastic Four [FANT4] bombed with just $26.2 million to debut in second place. The poorly received superhero film brought out an audience that was 60% male and 51% under the age of 25.
The Gift [WERDO] opened at the third spot with a better than expected $12.0 million. The psychological thriller attracted a crowd that was 53% female and 73% over the age of 25.
Vacation [VACTN] finished fourth with $9.1 million. The comedy sequel declined 37% in its second weekend to bring its running total to $37.3 million.
Ricki and the Flash [RICFL] charted at seventh with $7.0 million, while Shaun the Sheep [SHEEP] gathered just $4.0 million for eleventh overall.
