While a couple of special effects ladened spectacles flopped at the box office, The Martian [MARTN] remained in first place with an estimated $37.0 million. The sci-fi film declined just 32% to bring its total across $108.7 million.
Hotel Transylvania 2 [HTRN2] held second with $20.3 million. The animated sequel has booked $116.8 million after 3 weekends.
Widely panned by critics and moviegoers alike, Pan [PAN1] debuted at the third spot with just $15.5 million.
The Walk [TWALK] was also ignored by audiences, managing only $3.7 million in its expansion to wide release.
Expanding to 689 theaters, 99 Homes [99HOM] took in $0.6 million.
