The box office looks to suffer from post-holiday leftovers as the weekend after Thanksgiving is typically one of the slowest of the year. A couple of newcomers are unlikely to unseat The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 [HGAM4]. Since the finale wasn’t as front-loaded as the previous installments, Mockingjay Part 2 should continue to flatten out in its third outing and bank another $23 million.
The Good Dinosaur [DINOS] recorded Pixar’s lowest opening since A Bug’s Life in 1998. Two years ago, the blockbuster Frozen dropped 53% over the same time frame. The Good Dinosaur could tumble 55% to a second weekend of $17.5 million.
The boxing drama Creed [CREED] opened better than any of the previous Rocky films. With excellent word of mouth, Creed could hold 55% of its debut and $16.5 million.
Universal targets horror fans with the PG-13 rated Krampus [KRMPS]. The holiday-themed film has enough distance from the Halloween releases, but is unlikely to breakout this weekend. Arriving in 2902 theaters, Krampus may stuff $10 million.
The Mother Theresa biopic The Letters [LETRS] will only appeal to the Christian crowd. The Letters may deliver $1.0 million from 886 locations.
That’s the whisper from the virtual trading floor.
