The Star Wars reign atop the weekend box office has come to an end as Ride Along 2 [RDLO2] lead the way with an estimated $41.5 million over the 4-day MLK Jr. holiday weekend. The action comedy sequel appealed to a more diverse crowd than the first film, but fell short of the original's opening. The audience was 52% female and 55% under the age of 25.
12-time Oscar nominated The Revenant [REVEN] held firm in second place with $39.0 million to bring its total to $97.2 million.
13 Hours [13HRS] opened in fourth place with $19.7 million, while Norm of the North [NORMN] debuted sixth at $9.3 million.
