After all the serious suerphero movies about saving the world for the umpteenth time, moviesgoers embraced the irreverent, fourth-wall breaking humor of the R-rated Deadpool [DEADP] in a record-smashing way with an estimated $150.0 million over the 4-day holiday weekend. Deadpool debuted with $132.1 million over 3-days to set new all-time highs for February, for an R-rated film, and for the studio Fox, which had been reluctant to make the film. The audience was 62% male and 53% over the age of 25.
After two weeks at the top, Kung Fu Panda 3 [PAND3] dropped to second to $26.0 million to bring its total to $100.3million.
How to be Single [HTBSN] opened in third place with $20.6 million over the long weekend. The comedy skewed heavily female at 82% with 61% under the age of 35.
Zoolander 2 [ZOOL2] tanked with just a $16.0 million debut for fourth overall. The very late sequel attracted a crowd that was 51% female and 62% over the age of 25.
Hail, Caesar! [HAILC] finished seventh at $7.2 million, bringing its cumuative total to $22.0 million.
