The highly anticipated team-up of DC Comics' three biggest superheroes proved review-proof as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice [SUPE2] debued with an estimated $170.1 million. The mark sets a new high for Easter weekend and the month of March. If the estimates holds, Batman v Superman would top Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1's $169.1 million for Warner Bros.' biggest opener. The audience was 62% male and 60% over the age of 25.
Knocked off the top spot after 3 weeks, Zootopia [ZOOTP] finished second at $23.1 million. The animated film has banked $240.5 million.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 [MBFG2] opened $18.1 million for third place. The comedy skewed female at 73%.
Two sophomore releases tied for fourth place, The Divergent Series: Allegiant [DVRG3] crashed 65% to $9.5 million, while Miracles From Heaven [MFHVN] declined 36% to $9.5 million.
