As America commemorate 15th Anniversary of 9/11, the heroic drama Sully [SULLY] soared to an estimated opening weekend of $35.5 million, the fifth highest for the month of September. The audience skewed 56% female and 80% over the age of 35.
When the Bough Breaks [WTBBR] debuted in second place with $15.0 million, short of similar films from Sony Screen Gems the last two years.
After two weeks at the top, Don't Breathe [AMITD] finished third with $8.2 million. The thriller has banked $66.8 million.
The Wild Life [CRUSO] took in $3.4 million to open at the fifth spot.
The weekend's fourth wide opener The Disappointments Room [DSPRM] bombed outside the top 12 with just $1.4 million.
