History was made last night as the 82nd Academy Awards crowned its winners. The awards ceremony was hosted by Alec Baldwin [ABALD] and Steve Martin [SMART] who brought an appropriate mix of seriousness and shenanigans. Hollywood Stock Exchange traders delivered a stellar performance picking 6 out of 8 categories correct for a 75% accuracy.
Christoph Waltz [CWALT] was the first to walk off with a trophy, winning for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Inglourious Basterds. Traders made the same projection for Mo'Nique [MNIQU], who took home Best Supporting Actress for Precious.
While Up in the Air was HSX trader's choice for Best Adapted Screenplay, the Academy voted Precious as this year's winner for the category. Best Original Screenplay was also an upset for HSX traders as The Hurt Locker took home the prize instead of the projected Inglourious Basterds.
While the race was between Sandra Bullock [SBULL] and Meryl Streep [MSTRE], traders stuck behind Bullock who took home Best Actress for The Blind Side. Jeff Bridges' [JBRID] work in Crazy Heart had won trader's hearts from the beginning as they correctly predicted his Best Actor win.
The battle between Avatar and The Hurt Locker for Best Director and Best Picture were by far the most exciting match-ups in recent Oscar history. James Cameron [JCAME] was up against ex-wife Katherine Bigelow [KBIGE]. HSX traders knew that Bigelow would make history as the first woman to ever win the Best Director Oscar for The Hurt Locker. Traders had favored Avatar as Best Picture early on, but switched over to The Hurt Locker for Best Picture over the last weekend and came out correct!
