Rings [RING3] debuted in second place with $13.0 million. Audience for the horror sequel was 54% female and 67% under the age of 25.
A Dog's Purpose [ADOGP] finished third at $10.8 million, down 41% from its opening. The family film has collected $32.9 million.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter [RESE6] dropped 67% in its second outing to $4.5 million and sixth overall.
Expanding to wide release, Lion [LION] took home $4.0 million for the eighth spot. The drama has banked $24.7 million since opening over Thanksgiving.
The Space Between Us [OUTTW] bombed with just $3.8 million. The film skewed 69% female.
The Comedian [COMDN] tallied $1.1 million to open outside the top 12.
