Three new releases powered the weekend box office led by The LEGO Batman Movie [LBATM] with an estimated $55.6 million. The animated spin-off of The LEGO Movie drew a broad audience that was 52% female and 52% over the age of 25.
Fifty Shades Darker [50SH2] opened in second place with $46.8 million, well short of original's $85 million. The sequel skewed 70% female and should receive a Valentine's Day bump on Tuesday.
John Wick: Chapter 2 [WICK2] debut at third with $30.0 million, more than double the first's $14.4 million. The audience was 64% male.
After 3 weeks at the top, Split [SPLIT] dropped to fourth with $9.3 million to bring its total to $112.3 million.
Rings [RING3] slipped 55% in its second weekend to $5.8 million and the eighth spot.
