Sequel fatigue reared its ugly head again at the weekend box office as War for the Planet of the Apes [APES3] opened in first place with an estimated $56.5 million, short of the previous $72.6 million debut by Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The audience was 57% male and 63% 25 years or older.
After one week at the top, Spider-Man: Homecoming [SPID6] tumbled 61% to $45.2 million. The total stands at $208.3 million after 10 days.
Despicable Me 3 [DESM3] finished third with $18.9 million to bring its sum to $188.0 million.
Baby Driver [BDRIV] was fourth with $8.8 million to up its total to $73.1 million.
Expanding to wide release, The Big Sick [TBSIC] took in $7.6 million for the fifth spot. The romantic comedy has banked $16.0 million.
Wish Upon [WUPON] grossed $5.6 million to open seventh overall.
