With two down and ten to go, American Idol is marching forward leaving no prisoners behind. Last night, singer Usher mentored the contestants on R&B Night. men really took to his advice and outdid themselves from previous weeks, except possibly Tim Urban [AI9TUR]. Let's take a look at what happened last night and which poor souls could be saying goodbye tonight.
Urban struck an angry chord with judges with a karaoke version of 'Sweet Love.' After shaking their heads, the judges admitted that Urban's cuteness could keep him in the running. Urban is going to have to step it up as his young female fans can't keep him safe forever.
Didi Benami [AI9DBE] did herself no favors with her overdone version of 'What Becomes of a Broken Heart,' which was torn apart by the judges. Benami moved beyond her boring persona when the top twelve round started but has once again became forgettable. Last night's performance could spell her end.
Andrew Garcia [AI9AGA], Katie Stevens [AI9KST], Lee Dwayze [AI9LDE] and Casey James [AI9CJA] all delivered their best performances last night. Aaron Kelly [AI9AKE] and Michael Lynche [AI9MLY] maintained credibility but didn't really stand out. The two will need to inject more personality as the competition gets tougher.
Finally, the dual between Siobhan Magnus [AI9SMA] and Crystal Bowersox [AI9CBO] continues to heat up. The two women are clearly the divas of the group. While Bowersox struggled on some of her vocals for Chaka Khan's 'Through the Fire,' Magnus cleaned up her image delivering impeccable vocals on 'Midnight Train to Georgia.' The two favorites are the ones to beat this season.
