Despite debuting atop the weekend box office, the sci-fi seqeul Blade Runner 2049 [BLAD2] captured an estimated $31.5 million, well short of pre-release expectations. The film proved to be extremely front-loaded to its core audience of 71% male and 86% over the age of 25, and failed to crossover to the mainstream.
The Mountain Between Us [TMBUS] opened in second place with $10.1 million.
It [IT1.BW] finished third at $9.7 million to advance its total to $304.9 million.
My Little Pony [MLPNY] earned $8.8 million to debut at the fourth spot.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle [KTSS2] dropped from the top spot to fifth with $8.1 million and nearly $80.0 million after 3 weeks.
American Made [MENA] declined 52% in its second weekend to $8.1 million, bringing its total to $30.4 million.
Expanding wide to 732 theaters, Victoria and Abdul [VICAB] banked $4.1 million for eighth overall.
