Breaking box office records and shattering myths about films with a black cast at the same time, Black Panther [BPNTH] dominated with $201.7 million, the fourth largest opening of all times. The Marvel superhero is projected to an estimated $235.0 million over the 4-day holiday weekend. The film broke the record for the President's weekend and the month of February. The debut is also the highest for any stand-alone superhero film. African-Americans made up 35% of the audience, which was 55% male and 61% over the age of 25.
Peter Rabbit [PRABT] stayed in second place with $23.1 million, bringing its totalt to $54.1 million.
Last weekend's champ, Fifty Shades Freed [50SH3] finished third at $19.4 million, taking its sum to $78.6 million.
15:17 to Paris [1517P] pulled in another $9.1 million for fifth and $26.9 million overall.
Early Man debuted at the seventh spot with $4.2 million. The animated film drew 51% male and 62% over the age 25.
Samson [SAMSN] managed just $2.3 million to chart at number 11.
